I hold a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance and a Master of Arts in Community Music. I am a PAVA-Recognized Vocologist and Designated Linklater Teacher specializing in CCM (Contemporary Commercial Music) voice and voice habilitation.
I have taught and coached in the Theatre program at Sheridan College and the University of Toronto and in my independent studio in Waterloo, Ontario. My voice students have gone on to perform throughout Canada, on North American tours and star in Broadway shows.
I am the Founder and Artistic Director of The Singer's Theatre, a summer music theatre training program that attracts singers from across North America since 2002, and have served as vocal director for Celebrity Cruise Lines and Japan Cruise Lines.
I adjudicate regularly for classical, choral, pop, speech and music theatre categories. from coast to coast and internationally in China and Thailand. I have served as Vice-President of the Ontario chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and am a founding director of Canada’ s PAVA Chapter (Pan-American Vocology Association).
Faculty Advisor: WLU Snats (Student Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing).
I believe that the voice is a unique and unlimited conduit for human expression and that everyone deserves to have access to their own personal vocal experience. Whether it is through speaking or singing, I strive to provide the tools and space for each individual to explore the foundations of somatic freedom, vocal function and artistic expression within the scope of their culture, experience and world-view.
In my teaching, I aim to help the student, through lessons and/or coaching, find a fully-balanced equilibrium in their voice and vocal range using all of the colours, resonances and emotions available to them. I work to achieve this through cross-training between classical, music theatre, CCM and acting voice pedagogies combined. My background of undergraduate studies in Western Classical voice pedagogy and over 20 years of studying belting and alternative vocal production allows me to offer an “outside the box” approach to vocal expression and technique.
