³Ô¹ÏÍø’s Faculty of Music is proud to welcome back Professor Emerita Heather Taves for concerts on June 11, and 13th as part of her extraordinary retirement project performing all 32 of Beethoven’s piano sonatas.
Taves formally retired in 2022 after more than 25 years of transformative teaching at ³Ô¹ÏÍø.
Performances at the Maureen Forrester Recital Hall include Beethoven’s famous "Waldstein" and "Pathétique" Piano Sonatas. The last works in the cycle will be performed on June 15th at the Registry Theatre, completing a lifelong dream for Taves and placing her among a select group of pianists who have accomplished this feat.
During her time at ³Ô¹ÏÍø, Taves revolutionized the keyboard curriculum, pioneering new approaches to creativity, improvisation, historical instruments and technology. She also led the 21st Century Pianists Project and collaborated with trailblazing composers and performers from Canada and around the world.
These concerts are both a musical milestone and a heartfelt homecoming. Join us as we celebrate Beethoven’s genius — and the return of one of ³Ô¹ÏÍø’s most inspiring musical voices.
