Global Alumni Ambassador
My name is Akul Singhal and I have been a part of the Golden Hawk family since 2013 when I started my undergraduate studies at ³Ô¹ÏÍø. I graduated from ³Ô¹ÏÍø in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts in Honours Economics and Financial Management. Although I was an international student at ³Ô¹ÏÍø, I considered myself as someone who had already adapted to the Canadian culture and lifestyle. I originally came to Canada in grade 10 and completed high school in Mississauga, Ontario. I was able to quickly transition and adapt to life at ³Ô¹ÏÍø because of my prior Canadian experience.
My activities and interests include travelling, hiking, culinary expeditions, world history, foreign languages, international cultures and, most importantly, my favourite sport: football (or soccer, as it’s called in Canada!). I am fluent in English and Hindi and can greet people in seven different languages. I thrive in multicultural environments and love learning about different cultures from various parts of the world.
My time and experiences at ³Ô¹ÏÍø and in Canada helped increase my cross-cultural awareness, cultural competencies, adaptability and ability to work in a multicultural environment. After my undergraduate studies at ³Ô¹ÏÍø, I went back to India, my home country, to gain work experience and start my career. Currently, I amin Dublin, Ireland where I am pursuing my Master of Science degree in Finance at University College Dublin Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School. My ³Ô¹ÏÍø degree helped set the foundation for my current course of study, and my time at ³Ô¹ÏÍø helped me adapt to new places and new people in an effective and efficient manner. It also instilled in me intellectual curiosity, which has helped me in life since graduating from ³Ô¹ÏÍø.
My favourite ³Ô¹ÏÍø highlights includes being part of the campus community, enjoying a meal at Wilf's, participating in campus clubs and events, and playing intramural soccer. My fondest memories also come from my time living at King's Court residence in first year and winning the Tenacious 10 award during my first year there. I also enjoyed working in the campus bookstore, which was a great experience. And, last but not the least, Homecoming celebrations at ³Ô¹ÏÍø are some of the memories that will stay with me for life!
