The Hallman Foundation Scholars is a renewable award available exclusively to students living in the Region of Waterloo at the time of accepting an offer of admission. The goal of this award is to provide financial support to students who might not otherwise be able to study in higher education.
The award is worth $40,000 with $10,000 being awarded each year of a four-year degree. Students who are enrolled in a five-year program are eligible to receive funding for all five years.
This award can also be combined with other entrance scholarships, bursaries and awards.

Eligibility
You are eligible for the Hallman Foundation Scholars if you:
- Are a resident of the at the time you accept your offer of admission to ³Ô¹ÏÍø.
- Are an undergraduate student starting your first year of studies at ³Ô¹ÏÍø in any program in fall 2026.
- Are registered as a full-time student.
- A full-time course load is 2.0 credits per term, or the approved reduced course load registration outlined by your accommodation plan with Accessible Learning.
- Can demonstrate financial need.
- Demonstration of financial need is determined through your financial aid application (e.g., , ).
- Recipients are required to have a complete financial aid application submitted as of early July 2026. Financial aid eligibility will be confirmed in early fall 2026.
You are eligible to receive the award in your upper years if you:
- Are registered in a full-time course load at ³Ô¹ÏÍø (2.0 credits per term, or the approved reduced course load registration outlined by your accommodation plan with Accessible Learning).
- Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 4.0 (C-).
- Can demonstrate financial need.
- Demonstration of financial need is determined through your financial aid application (e.g., , ).
- Recipients are required to have a complete financial aid application submitted as of early July 2026. Financial aid eligibility will be confirmed in early fall 2026.
How to Apply
The Hallman Foundation Scholars application opens on January 15, 2026, and closes on May 4, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. EDT.

To submit your application:
- Log in to .
- Navigate to the "Student Awards and Financial Aid" tab.
- Click the “Student Awards Applications” link to access the Hallman Foundation Scholars application.
Once started, you will be able to review and make changes to your submission up until the deadline.
Application Components
The application for the Hallman Foundation Scholars will include:
- A 500-word personal statement sharing why you might not see yourself attending higher education.
- A completed full-time financial aid application (e.g., , ) on file as of early July. Financial aid eligibility will be confirmed in early fall, following the review of submitted applications.

How to Access Your Application Once Started
- Click the “Student Awards and Financial Aid” tab.
- Click the "View My Applications" link.
- Click to "View/Modify" your Hallman Foundation Scholars application.
- When your application is complete, click the "Submit" button.
- Visit the "View my Applications" tab to ensure the application shows as "submitted".

Exclusions
- You must be admitted to first-year studies. If you are admitted to advanced year standing, you will not be considered for the bursary.
- Bachelor of Education (BEd) students are not eligible for this award, as this is a recruitment-focused award for first-entry undergraduate students.
Additional Information
- The award cannot be deferred. If you want to defer your offer of admission, you will need to reapply for the Hallman Foundation Scholars for the term you will start at ³Ô¹ÏÍø.
- The award is renewable for all years of a four-year program. If you are studying in a five-year program, you are eligible for funding for all five years.
- Students that do not complete the financial aid application or demonstrate financial need through the completion of a financial aid application will be considered ineligible for the bursary. - All conditions and eligibility requirements are subject to change at the discretion of the Student Awards Office.
- There is a limited amount of funding available. This award will be granted on a competitive basis to a select number of recipients. The stated value of awards and number of recipients is subject to change.
